How To Teach Your Labradoodle Puppy To Sit

The "Sit" command is an easy way for your Labradoodle puppy to show off their good manners. They can sit when a visitor arrives, when you come across a friend out walking, when preparing their dinner, or when they need to wait for just about anything you can think of.

"Sit" is also the easiest exercises to practice because you can have them to sit whenever and wherever you like.

This command particularly good for everyday things, like having their leash attached before heading out for a walk.

The technique of this command is to say their name and then "Sit!" Any command you give your Labradoodle should be preceded by their name, because you want to get their attention so they know you're talking to them.

Puppies enjoy having a name, it's only when they reach adolescence that, like other teenagers, they pretend not to hear you. Any time you see your Labradoodle puppy about to sit, quickly say, "Sit, good dog." If they're already sitting give him a "good sit" reward.

The easiest way to teach Labradoodles to sit is by getting their attention with a treat, held above their head. Slowly move the treat backward over their head.

Because they want to keep their eye on the treat, their backside has to drop to the floor.

It takes some practice, but it's a proven way of getting an unforced sit. As they sit, give the command, "Sit" and hand out a small piece of the treat.

This is motivational teaching, because your Labradoodle puppy performs the desired action by themselves.

Another method is having your puppy beside you on your left side, holding a treat in front of them with your right hand, and gently pushing down on their hindquarters with your left hand.

With a large Labradoodle, you could put your left arm around their hindquarters and with a gentle forward motion, bend their knees, forcing the sit.

If you follow the first method, and they're sitting every time you give the command, it's time to graduate to using just the hand signal.

Make the same upward motion with your hand, palm up as you did in raising the treat over their head, and your Labradoodle will do a very nice sit.
